In Fastatøkur we learn more about the life at sea now that Høgni has seperated himself from the world of Hórisvík and has gone on board on the ship Rúðan. Life at sea is portrayed with its happy times and bad times, in the storm and in calm seas. The life of fishing is depticted as well as the journey home and the life on land between voyages. It is a life in which the young mature. Høgni, who in the preceding book casts aside the dream of a girl and a home with the words “They were only pretty mirages”, manages in the latter book to get a firm grip on life and comes home to the girl of his dreams and to his father’s farm.
