This epos came into being as we were working on the book about my uncle on my mother's side, Jóannis Kristiansen, who, as a young man, chose to seek a different path than the one trodden by generations of his forefathers.

Rather than joining his father on a boat to sail the open seas as a fisherman or working the land with a spade in hand, Jóannis enjoyed reading, drawing and painting, as well as learning about the great big world in which everything was different than in his home village. At the age of 17, Jóannies ventured out into the world to learn about the art of painting.
