Alex’s father had been married and had eight adult children. He was not like the other fathers. He was old.
Alex has not visited the farm in Värmland since his father passed away. When he finally goes to visit, old memories resurface. And he begins to collect those memories in his journal, which soon contains several hundred memories. The memories are woven together into a tender, wistful, and loving depiction of his father. A special story about what it is like to grow up with ageing parents.
As a child, Alex often wonders why his father doesn’t throw him up into the air or plays with him like the other fathers do. As a young man, he is afraid that his father will get up at night and trip. Later, they both have to get used to no longer seeing each other at home. Instead, they meet at the old people’s home for the yearly celebration with lobster and whiskey that Alex smuggles into the building.
After the funeral, Alex struggles with his own emotions and pushes them away, until the day that he can no longer contain them.
Joylessness and sorrow mixed with humour and deep affection. A touching story about a father and son and their battle against time
