“The Kvívik mistress (she was from the village of Kvívik) held school in a humble living room; there, she banged into our little heads that an essay was divided into a beginning, a topic and a conclusion.

Further up the academic path it was labelled prologue, theme and epilogue. But all the same, when travelling between the crags and crevices of the highlands of life, both themes and theories drowned in the sea of forgetfulness. And now, as I journey down the pleasant epilogian hill, several events and episode re-emerge and I attempt, as best I can, to encapsulate them in words on paper in this second volume of reminiscences. I doubt it is any better than the first, because with their combined 800 pages behind me, I still cannot manage to get past 1956, when, finally, my intended theme emerges. Of that, if life and health permits, I will write about in another volume.”

In this volume, Heini and two classmates go on a fool-hearty trip to Norway, where he, among other things, ends up working in old silver mines deep below the town of Kungsberg, and travels to Bergen to study. On completing his degree, he returns to the Faroes to lead work on the first tunnel dug for SEV, the islands electricity company. He also threads his hiking boots thin making topographic measurements. Finally he sets sails for Denmark to pursue an advanced degree, before travelling much farther afield.
