Anna, Hanna og Jóhanna (paperbook)
While Anna sits watching over her mother, she yearns to understand her and her grandmother, Hanna, who she never really got to know. Anna decides to piece together fragments of the past. She reads old letters, studies old photographs and finds diary excerpts. Little by little the lives of Hanna and Anna’s mother, Johanna, begin to unfold.
With these scraps of memory and history and with a hunger to make sense of the mess of threads spun over the generations, Anna searches for answers to the questions that have bothered her all her life. What was her grandmother Hanna’s situation like when she, over a hundred years ago, married a miller and raised an illegitimate child out in a village? What made her own mother, Johanna, who once was a strong and rebellious woman submit to the life of being a housewife? Why is Anna herself reliving their lives when she has the opportunity to carve out a life of her own?
