Søgan um Ravnkel Froysgoða

Ravnkel Froysgoða is an Icelandic story of the young boy, Ravnkel, who comes to Iceland during the time of settlement in the late ninth century. Young Ravnkel sets up his home in a valley where he makes a great blood sacrifice to  his god, Frey. He gets hold of a lot of livestock - sheep, cattle, goats and horses. He also has a precious treasure which he cherishes more than anything: his horse, Froyfaksi. Ravnkell consecrated the horse and gave half of it to Frey and named it after the god. Then Ravnkel swore an oath that if any other man sat on the horse to ride it then he would forfeit his life. Ravnkel has a great farm with much livestock and many young men come to work there. Also a poor boy comes to the farm and asks for work. He is permitted to take care of the sheep higher up in the valley but is told to keep his eye on Froyfaksi as well as the other horses. What follows shall not be revealed here but it is an exciting story with radical outcomes for everyone.
