Og várið kom (paperbook)

In this publication, three of those, who over the past half a century have produced beautiful and noticeable pieces of art, have come together as fully developed, astute artists.

All three of them are teachers by profession. Every one of them speaks to the child in their own way with words, pictures, and songs. Not least to the child, carried in the hearts of adults throughout their lives.

Knút Olsen adapted the poems to music. Knút, who composed the tunes for all the songs we sing, regardless whether the mood is light, melancholic, or sad. Whether spring is near, or snow covers the mountain tops, whether darkness looms over fishermen on the shore, or brightness lures young lovers outside on a green summer day. He hits the spot again and again.

Bárður Jákupsson has preserved the simplicity and humour in his drawings, which characterised his line drawings from younger years. The foundation from which Heðin Brú developed his literary portraits lives on in Bárður’s drawings like a warm, cheerful undertone in everything he does. A deep existential insight with its own qualities, humour, and folly.

Alexandur Kristiansen writes poems on exploring the world alone with all senses agape, on tranquillity, rest, and existence with all its diverse and simmering life.

The adult understands the worm, that throughout its life revered the bird’s noble flight but gets eaten by a chicken. The adult also understands the worm, that is convinced of the light being dark.

But Alexandur presents the story to the child along with the images and joy that is brought by his words.

A CD including all these beautiful songs comes with the book. All the songs written by Knút Olsen are here performed by Jensina Olsen and Finnur Hansen.'

Matvísa

Composition: Knút Olsen. Drawing: Bárður Jákupsson.

Á havsins botni hendir mangt og hvat,
har liva tey, so løgið tað enn ljóðar

sum helst er sloppin út úr onkrum ringi;
og havtaskan, hvat man hon hava fingið?
Hvør veit? Hon svølgir altíð fongin straks.

Har fer ein seiður heldur langt út frá,
og vups! Hann etin varð av eini hýsu.
Nei, nú er best at enda hesa vísu.
Hoyr kona, set nú døgurðan útá!

Kvøldørindi

Composition: Knút Olsen. Drawing: Bárður Jákupsson.

Kvøldarroðin bjartur er,
áin tutlar sínar sangir,
fuglur leggur saman veingir,
seyðurin sær bólstað ger;
brátt er kvirt í stóru verð.

Vaksa vit í himin inn,
havið aldar blítt við strendur,
barnið leggur saman hendur,
hugur linkar, linkar sinn,
sovnar so við bros á kinn.
