The narrator, Marlow, travels up the Congo River for a Belgian trading company. Deep inside the country, he meets the mysterious Kurtz, an ivory trader, who has somehow managed to gain divine status among the inhabitants of the area. Kurtz is fascinating in his own way, at the same time as he provokes deep resentment.
There, Marlow finds himself face to face with all the corruption and all the chagrin living in the heart of this person.
