Váðafúsir føroyingar (paperbook)
Jógvan is no coward. Unafraid, he dangled from the line, and the cliffs above him towered toward the sky as he hunted the birds, made a mockery of death, and balanced on the precipice, where no one should be able to stand. But this time, he was taken aback, and a shiver went down his spine, as the seal decided to charge from his upright position.
Jógvan is the 14-year-old hero of this exciting story, written by German ethnologist, Erich Wustmann, when he visited in Mykines during the summer of 1938.
Through Jógvan, he describes how tough and merciless life in Mykines in the 1930s could be. Likewise, he illustrates the people’s strong ties to the island and their love for nature.
