Jákup Sørensen was born in Tórshavn on the national Flag Day, 25 April 1972. He has a degree in communication and history from the University of Roskilde in addition to a minor degree in Faroese language from the Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature. In recent years, he has worked within Nordic cooperation at NORA – Nordic Atlantic Cooperation. He has translated approximately 20 books, most of them children’s books. Along with Norwegian and Swedish colleagues in translation, he coordinated and established a Nordic network for translators of children’s books. From 1991 to 2003, Jákup also worked as a freelancer for the Faroese national radio producing youth- and sport programmes.

On Sprotin, Jákup has translated two books: Tíggjundi maðurin (The Tenth Man) by Graham Greene and DNA by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir.
