Olly Ritterband was born in Miercurea-Niraj in Transylvania in Romania. Her parents were Jewish. She had a happy and safe childhood but as she was on the doorstep to life itself - in 1944 - the Nazis came and she was sent with her household to a concentration camp. In this book Olly tells the story of her and her family’s fate. The fate of people who were shuffled like pawns in a game of chess. Why has she written this book? Sometimes it is said that such things will never exist again. Concentration camps, gass chambers and the degredation. History tells us that this is not the case. Every day there is something, somewhere in the world, which is similar to the Nazi extermination pits. The truth can hurt but it also educates.
