Av longum leiðum (paperbook)

Gunnar Hoydal

It was his first journey from Tórshavn all the way north to the village of Kvívik and he cries bitterly. Nor can he stand going to Copenhagen to visit his grandmother. Why? Because his own homely world has everything he desires.

Later, he sets out into the big wide world, first to South America and then to study architecture in Copenhagen before trekking from one European city to another, curious, observant, taking in new experiences.

The globetrotting poet is a master at retracing his journey. But wherever the journey takes him, the Faroes never disappear beyond his mind’s horizon. And that quiet smile Gunnar brings to all his writings permeates these travel memoirs as well.
