Hagabókin fyri Uttan á Skarði (paperbook)
They did not see themselves fit to write it on their own, having grown up during a time when schooling was scarce. But they must have recognised the inferiority in reliability of oral accounts. They were also aware of the youth’s lack of interest in listening to their elders. And thus, much would be lost.
The recordings begin in 1919 and end in 1991. So much has been written down that we may now understand the ins and outs of tending, how the drives were managed, the butchering and the birth-rate of lambs, and how these many years have been with regards to weather and vegetation.
The back of the book includes pictures with toponyms.
