Large demands are being placed on municipalities, how they organize themselves, and how democracy can flourish in these entities.
This book examines societal changes, mergers, town planning, and electoral systems.
Changes to transportation have connected the majority of Faroese society as a unit, causing municipal borders to feel restrictive rather than as appropriate frameworks for the units. Due to this, municipal mergers and cooperation have been on the agenda for many years. At the same time, a growing number of tasks are now delegated to the municipalities to manage. However, the tasks vary greatly in size and have a wide range of economic, administrative and democratic conditions.
This means that the municipalities have become the primary source of injustice and inequality in Faroese society.
This book addresses all of these issues.
