Vestmanna søga 2
This second volume of the history of Vestmanna focuses on Fitjahandilin, one of the villages first stores, and its importance for the later development of the village—its significance for the development of the fishing industry, both fishing with small boats and larger vessels. The volume depicts the enthusiasm surrounding the new industry.
The volume also focuses on the visionary entrepeneur Ólavur á Heygum, both his investment in the village and the opposition to his plans.
Each home and family that lived in Vestmanna in 1925 is also discussed.
The great changes in the 1930s are analysed, changes in the distribution of home fields, the emergence of new tradesmen, the establishment of a children’s home and the initiation of a major hydro-power project by SEV, the islands electricity company.
The volume also contains light-hearted observations on the villagers’ daily life, their faith, hobbies and sports.
