In 2001 the Faroese Ministry of Culture commissioned Anfinnur Skála and Jonhard Mikkelsen to make a major Faroese-English dictionary, using the official Faroese mother tongue dictionary as their point of departure. They completed their work in 2003. But when the dictionary was completed, the difference between this dictionary and the English-Faroese dictionary published in 1992 was so marked that the two could not be sold as a set. Therefore, they set out to make a major revision of the 1992 English-Faroese, making it ready for publication in 2005.
