Viljans verk æt fólksins frami
Next year will mark a century since Jóannes the farmer began his political struggle, which he stood by the remainder of his life – nearly half a century. Also, one hundred years have passed since Kristin í Geil began his career as editor in chief of the new paper “Tingakrossi”. Viewpoints varied on political issues at the beginning of the twentieth century. There was a lot going on in terms of practical, economical, cultural, and nationalistic issues. Those who look into these social conditions will soon be convinced that both Jóannes and Kristin í Geil, each in their own way, were given the same fate (one that all social activists get) of adversity and public scrutiny. Their struggle marked their lives and their destinies, but also left a lasting impression on society and how Faroese people see themselves and their country.
