Bumbur yvir Føroyar
Already in 1946 Norrøna Forlagið published BUMBUR YVIR FØROYAR (Bombing the Faroes), a collection with events and tragedies in the Faroes during World War II.
The book narrates the war years in the Faroes, and how the local authorities responded to the war. The book contains excerpts from laws and executive as well as newspaper clippings. The economy and insurance matters are also discussed.
Narratives of personal experience make the book come alive, touching the reader, as he or she reads about people fleeing their villages or being bombed while navigating their ships across the Atlantic. Most narratives are needless to say sombre, but some are humorous as well.
BUMBUR YVIR FØROYAR paints a portrait of what it was like to live in danger and fear. It is not a portrait painted at a distance but one as close to the events it narrates as is possible.
