This is a story about two who love each other intensely but never get one another—and therefore it turns into a story of vindictive revenge.  

The story narrates the life of Heathcliff, a mysterious and dark man, from his youth until he is about 30 years of age.  

Heathcliff is adopted into a good house but is considered no higher than a servant. He runs away, and, about the same time, the girl he loves marries another man.  

He later returns, wealthy, well educated and set on inflicting revenge on those he believes have destroyed his life.
