Per Petterson
Tróndur and his father spend the summer of 1948 in a pasture by a large river close to the Swedish border. It is a summer with logging, rafting, horses, haymaking, heat, rain, wild boys’ play, and the gaiety of adolescence – and the dim air of death and deception and forbidden love.

Tróndur is 15 years old. What he experiences this summer will affect the rest of his life. Around fifty years later, he moves into a remote, little cottage close to a lake together with his dog. He aspires to reinvent his life, far away from the life he had in the city as a businessman. It was always his dream to live in a place like this.

His next-door neighbour turns out to be another outcast; an old man, who he used to know; someone, Tróndur needs to make his mind up about. The summer of 1948 is starting to haunt him – and it may be too late to come to terms with the past.
