Fuglar okkara
Since 2017, Jórun Pólsdóttir and Silas Olofson have been working on a contemporary book about birds in the Faroe Islands.
The set of books titled FUGLAR OKKARA (Our Birds) describes and depicts all species of wild birds that have been registered in the Faroe Islands.
The purpose of FUGLAR OKKARA is to shed light on the diverse bird life existing in the Faroe Islands. The set of books is intended to help people identify birds and to ignite a sense of joy and love for the Faroese nature and birdlife.
The set of books is well suited for display at home and as educational material for schools and institutions. The writing is of professional quality and the books contain many large images that complement the text in addition to being aesthetically pleasing.
The texts describing each species contain information about appearances, habits, migration patterns, and what the bird eats. In the photos of each species, both genders are depicted in order to show the difference in the suit of feathers.
Special emphasis is placed on the non-migratory birds in the Faroe Islands. The information about these species includes descriptions of how they build nests as well as images of the eggs.
Other texts in the books contain information about behaviour in nature, threats against the birdlife, and the cycle of the Faroese bird year. Additionally, all registered sightings of rare birds are included in the books.
The set of books will be published in three large volumes in a case. A pocket book is also included in the purchase.
