Astrid is 42 years old, has studied literary history, and works at a Swiss University. She dreams of becoming a writer and decides to apply for a leave of absence in order to move to the Faroe Islands to write.

Captivated by mythical beings and strange creatures, Astrid starts collecting data. Threads of fate from her childhood become interwoven with strange experiences in Torshavn, causing her to nearly lose her footing. Not least when she meets a local man, who is completely different from everything she has previously encountered. Her time in the Faroe Islands prompts her to reevaluate her life, and by the journey's end, Astrid is not the same person as when she left home.
