For as long as I can remember, I have heard people claim that the time of the British occupation from 1940-45 brought so much change to Vágar, that it is difficult to put it into words. Hence, I wanted to investigate, what life was like in Vágar prior to the occupation, how the occupation affected society, and how life had changed because of it after war’s end.

The period assessed in this book is thus mainly the time from around 1930 until 1960.

I was interested in finding out how things changed when Vágar was occupied during the war.
