Stormfuglar
In the middle of winter, the side trawler “Máfurinn” went fishing near Newfoundland. Thirty-two souls were onboard. They had some excellent fishing and filled the ship, but as they were about to head home, a terrible storm broke out. Perpetual spray from the freezing sea soon had the heavy vessel covered in ice, destabilising it.
The heavy trawler was near foundering due to the weight of the wet snow – all hope of rescue seemed lost. The men heard distress calls from other ships in the same situation – fighting between life and death.
This book is deeply relevant for Faroese fishermen, many of whom were in the same situation during those terrible days, while the storm lasted. Thus, it is a book that will resonate with Faroese seamen.
An incredibly emotional and shocking book.
