Jóhan Hendrik Winther Poulsen

was born on 20. June, 1934, in the village of Sumba. He received a degree (mag. art.) in Nordic languages in 1962. Together with Christian Matras, he helped establish the Department of Faroese at the University of the Faroe Islands. He was later appointed professor in the department. He is undoubtedly the most well-known modern neologist in the Faroes. He published a book with neologisms in 1974 and received the M.A. Jacobsen Price in 1991 for his work. He produced the popular radio programme Orðabókin (The Dictionary) between 1969 and 1993. Partly on basis of these programmes, a Faroese dictionary was published in 1998.
