If I climb to the high ridge behind the farmstead, I can see other islands laid out like green stepping stones across the cold ocean. I have heard that a man who sails away northerly for many weeks will find nothing but water, and then fall off this world into darkness.  

The events first written down as the Faroes Saga happened more than one thousand years ago.
