Feðgarnir á Miðgerði og Kristin á Øgrum
The book revolves around three men from different generations of Migerð-men: Father and son, Poul á Miðgerði and Poul Johannis á Miðgerði, along with Kristin á Øgrum, the grandson of Poul Johannis.
Poul á Miðgerði was the son of Jákup á Miðgerði from Kollafjørður. Jákup was a skilled man – he was a carpenter, blacksmith, and stonemason. His proficiencies were inherited by his sons, who were able to hone their skills both indoors and outdoors so that when the eldest of them inherited the farm, the others were well-prepared to pursue other professions. They were renowned for their hard work and sensibility. They left their mark on their present both physically and spiritually. Heart, quality, and vigour characterized them. Despite living through difficult times, a positive mindset and a hopeful outlook on life sustained them. They fought against an unequal society and would sometimes criticise the upper class.
Kristin á Øgrum lived during a time of upheaval, but the family characteristics proved invaluable when he had to make decisions that would impact men and their families.
