The author was 37 years old and had at that time been a Faroese representative in the Danish Parliament for two years and had made a serious effort to voice his opinions on the constitutional status of the Faroe Islands in the Danish Kingdom. The status, which Danes, not Faroese, had organized and put into use in the nineteenth century, before the Faroese Parliament existed. 

 

 The author explains how the Faroe Islands came under the constitution and how it got its parliamentary representation in the “Folketinget” and the “Landstinget”. 

 

 In the book’s preface, Jóannes uses the motto: “Trust breeds trust”. He stood by the belief that if political progress was to be attained, there had to be accordance and unity between the Danes and the Faroese, mutual agreement and cooperation based on mutual knowledge and understanding of one another. 

 

The book is a fine contribution to political informative literature and is a good source for understanding certain state of affairs in Faroese politics.
