80 years or so have passed since Hotel Føroyar first opened its doors on Kongabrúgvin (the King’s Quay) in Tórshavn.

The hotel has played host to many a curious and unique event over these 80 years—special guests, amazing meals, unique events, important conferences and VIP meetings.  

The book is a memoir celebrating the hospitality industry, gastronomy, entertainment and the good life.

In part, the book is a celebration of the 80 year long journey from Kongabrúgvin up to hill of Kerjar, the hotel’s current location. But just as an important part is the stories about the various localities in the old town of Tórshavn, where the hotel has operated its businesses. These stories show that the good life has flourished in prosperous times. They also show us that in some respects the difference was not so significant between walking the streets of London and Tórshavn.

Honouring the hotel’s history as well as all the buildings in which it operates today, this is an experiment to portrait the Ryberg shop in Vágsbotnur, the Østrøm factory at Rættará, the Seaman’s home, the Pub and Hotel Djurhuus as well as Tróndur Hansen’s passion for planting trees, herbs and flowers. The story of the building on Kongabrúgvin, in which Hotel Føroyar began its activity, is unique in its special relationship with the Pub. Now this is history, but the story’s spirit has migrated and now animates the new hotel.
