Viðareiði - Slóðirnar og minnið
The framework of this set of books is the exposition of placenames in the village of Viðareiði and in the part of Viðoy that belongs to the village. Danial recounts stories and incidents tied to these places.
The first years of the author's childhood were spent in the area named Fodlendi, where he lived with his grandparents, who were descended from the two farms of Fodlendi called Miðstova and Uppistova. It was an area rich with history, and Danial grew up surrounded by people who were greatly interested history.
Viðareiði was a very secluded village, and Danial lived through the final days of an old culture, which more or less vanished during the mid 20th century.
Danial was born during World War II. The old people that told him stories as a boy had lived through the great changes that took place after the Danish royal trade monopoly and the "bátsband"-system were abolished.
Danial himself was a young man during the changes that followed World War II when the villagers of Viðareiði were still occupied with fishing and digging peat.
