How do you breed sheep?
How do you procure mutton with transparent fat?
Ought the breeders be long-haired?
Can the sheep’s radius predict its weight?
Do sheep know the difference between high- and low tide?
Are the animals that graze in the bird cliffs flavourful?
How is a carcass divided?
How do you calculate the worth of a piece?
Talking about sheep is as common as talking about the weather. Also, in spite of everything that has changed over the past few decades.
During the first half of the century past, it was deemed strange to write about such things. Things, that everyone had always known.
Fifty years later, the culture and much of what for centuries used to be at the core of everyday Faroese life is far from general knowledge anymore.
Robert Joensen took the time to write it all down, and it was at the eleventh hour that he documented the manner of speaking, the working methods, and the culture. Now, we pass the knowledge forward with a book. Suitable for our time, it presents a new dwelling for the practices of the past.
